Heavy-duty recovery

Truck sunk into the verge

A truck that gets its wheels into a soft verge often sinks in quickly. It then usually cannot get out under its own power. With our heavy recovery trucks and winches we pull it back onto the road in a controlled way.

What to do

First, stop driving

Do not keep trying to drive out. The wheels dig in deeper and the truck can lean over further or even tip over. Switch off the engine, turn on the hazard lights and make sure you are standing somewhere safe.

Call 058 30 30 125 and tell us where you are. Also tell us whether the truck is loaded and how far it is leaning. Then we bring the right equipment straight away.

Our approach

Back onto the road with the winch

Our heavy recovery truck stays on the paved road. We use the winch to pull the truck back slowly and straight, so it does not sink further or tip over.

Is the truck leaning badly or heavily loaded? Then part of the load may have to be unloaded first. We discuss this with you on site.

Afterwards

Back on the road or to the workshop

No damage? Then the driver can usually carry on straight away. Is there damage, for example to the tyres or the axle? Then we take the truck to the dealer or workshop.

Situations we help with include

  • Trucks with their wheels sunk into a soft verge
  • Combinations that sank in while turning round or moving over
  • Buses and coaches that have ended up beside the road
  • Trucks on unpaved ground or a building site

Frequently asked questions

Can't another truck or tractor pull my truck free?

Sometimes, but often it is not strong enough and both vehicles can get damaged. With a heavy winch it is done in a controlled and safe way.

Does the load have to come off before you pull the truck free?

Usually not. Only if the truck is leaning badly or is very heavy may part of the load have to be unloaded first. We discuss this on site.

What does it cost to pull a truck free?

That depends on the location, how deep it is stuck and how long the job takes. Call 058 30 30 125 for a price estimate.
