Heavy-duty recovery

Truck stuck in snow or ice

In snow and ice, trucks and buses get into trouble more easily. They can no longer get up a slip road or slope, or they leave the road. BCF Mobiliteit goes out day and night, in winter weather too.

Safety

Stuck or off the road: do this first

Switch on the hazard lights and make sure the truck can be seen clearly. As the driver, stand behind the crash barrier or well away from the road, because other vehicles can skid too when it is slippery.

Do not try to get free by giving it a lot of throttle. On ice the wheels spin and the combination can jackknife or slide further off the road. Call us and we will pull the truck free in a controlled way.

Our approach

Pulled free with the winch

Our heavy recovery truck stands firmly on the road and pulls the truck back with the winch. Has the truck left the road? Then we bring it back onto the carriageway or take it to a workshop.

On the motorway, the recovery is arranged by the CMV, Rijkswaterstaat's central truck recovery desk. BCF Mobiliteit is affiliated with the CMV.

Winter rush

Many calls at once

During a sudden snow shower or freezing rain we get a lot of calls in a short time. Our control room then spreads the recovery trucks as well as it can. Are you in a safe place? Then at very busy times it may take a little longer.

Situations we help with include

  • Trucks that can no longer get up a slip road or slope
  • Combinations that jackknifed or left the road in slippery conditions
  • Buses stuck in snow
  • Trucks on the verge or in a ditch after a skid

How it works

How we help in winter weather

1. Get to safety

Hazard lights on, vest on and behind the crash barrier.

2. Report

Call 058 30 30 125. On the motorway it goes through the CMV.

3. Pulling free or recovery

With the winch, or we recover the truck if it can no longer be driven.

4. Onwards

Back on the road, or to the dealer or workshop.

Frequently asked questions

Can you pull free a truck that can no longer get up a slope?

Yes. We use the winch to pull the truck up the slope or slip road, or back to a place where it can wait safely until the road has been gritted.

Who pays for the recovery if a truck slides off the road in icy conditions?

That goes through the vehicle's insurance or through the transport company. For trucks, recovery is not always covered as standard. We coordinate it with the parties involved.

Do you also help cars in icy conditions?

Yes. See our page about towing in snow and ice.
