Costs

What does the cost of towing depend on?

Towing does not have a fixed price. The difference lies in the type of vehicle, the location, the time and what is needed. A broken-down car beside a provincial road is a smaller job than a car that has to be pulled out of a ditch after an accident.

Would you like to know in advance what to expect? Call 058 30 30 125. We will ask a few questions about the situation and give you an indication.

Who pays

Who pays for towing after an accident?

After an accident, towing usually goes through the car insurance. Many policies cover towing, even if you only have third-party (WA) cover. In a collision with another party, the insurance of the party at fault may pay the costs. Your policy sets out exactly how it works.

Do you drive a lease car? Then the leasing company usually handles the settlement. We work for insurers, assistance companies and leasing companies every day and agree the costs directly with them. That way you know in advance what, if anything, you have to pay yourself.

Storage

Storage costs

Can your car not go straight to a garage? Then we keep it safely in storage at one of our locations. If the car stays there longer, for example because the insurer still has to assess the damage, storage costs may apply. Our planning team will explain this in advance.

Motorway

Towing on the motorway

On the motorway and other roads with incident management, the road authority's control room decides which recovery company is sent. Through Stichting Incident Management Nederland (IMN), BCF Mobiliteit is contracted for nine road districts in Friesland. In those cases too, the costs usually go through your insurance.

The price depends on things like

  • The type and weight of the vehicle
  • The location, for example a motorway, a ditch or a farmyard
  • The time, for example at night or at the weekend
  • The equipment needed, such as a crane or winch
  • The distance to the garage or storage facility
  • How long the car stays in storage

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to tow a car?

There is no fixed price. The cost depends on the vehicle, the location, the time and the equipment needed. Call 058 30 30 125 for an indication.

Does my third-party (WA) insurance pay for towing?

Often, yes. Many car insurance policies cover towing after an accident, even with third-party cover only. This varies by insurer and policy. Check your policy terms or ask us, and we will look into it together.

Does towing affect my no-claims discount?

With most insurers, using assistance services such as towing does not affect your no-claims discount. A damage claim can. Check your policy terms to be sure.

Do I have to pay storage costs?

That is possible, for example if your car stays with us longer because the damage still needs to be assessed. Our planning team will explain in advance whether and when storage costs apply.
