Boniface City with ramparts

Dokkum is known as the city where missionary Boniface was murdered in 754. Pilgrims annually visit the Boniface Chapel and the spring near the Zuiderbolwerk. The star-shaped ramparts are among the best-preserved fortifications in the Netherlands and make Dokkum the northernmost city in the Elfstedentocht.
